A Whisk Your Eggs Will Love
The Lonely Kitchen Wisk
Poor whisk, all alone in the back of the drawer, rarely brought out to be use. The fork was always getting the action while whisk was shoved to the back behind the extra pancake flippers.
Scratching tick marks into the back of the dark drawer to count the days since the last time he saw a sauce, a cream, a scramble, ... saw anything! He feared that his handle was getting tarnished and his balloon whip, once proud and strong, was getting weak and flattened. He feared he would soon be replaced.
Then he saw the light!
Suddenly the dark drawer filled with warm sunlight and there was much rusting of utensils. Everyone tried to look their best and whisk just sat quietly in the cold shadows in the back of the drawer.
The hand grasped him! What? He was clanked into a large ceramic mix bowl and left alone for several minutes. He could hear all sorts of noise. Was this it? Was this the END? Was he being sent to the thrift shop with the mismatched dishes and the old salt shakers?
He waited in the deep mixing bowl. Would no one come?
And then .... what was that crinkling sound? And that rolling noise? Eggs!?! Were there eggs on the counter next to the bowl? Were his dreams finally about to come true after being shoved to the back of the drawer? He could hardly bear the thought, but he tried hard to stand up tall and look smart.
Then he heard the little girl's voice. "Mama, can I help make them?"
Oh my gosh, it really was happening!
As the coffee pot started to gurgle he began to get nervous.
A soft whisper came from the mom, "Just a few more minutes, let Mama have her coffee. The eggs are too cold right now and we want them to be perfect for Daddy."
"I'm glad Daddy is home again. Today is the best day, he's going to be so surprised!"
Whisk wondered where the little girl's Daddy had been. It was always him who made the eggs and toast for breakfasts in the morning. It had been a long two years in the back of that dark drawer.
When Mom started crying, whisk realized why he had been alone all those years. Her heart ached for the one she loved just as his heart ached for the one he loved. She was finally with Daddy and Egg was going to be with him again very soon. The little girl was right, today was the best day.
Finally!
Mama whispered to the little girl, "Okay, let's get these ready for Daddy before he wakes up."
The little girl rushed over to the counter and grasped whisk firmly. He could feel how excited she was to have her Daddy home again and share his favorite breakfast with him. He was so glad that he could help her. He strived to make his balloon look it's best and prepared himself, taking a deep breath.
*crack*
It was really time! Egg came flowing into the large ceramic mixing bowl. Not too cold, not too warm, just right at room temperature.
It had been so long since Whisk had seen Egg that he may have blushed a bit at first. But then it was like they were never apart. Whisk rushed in the little girl's hand, and Egg sang a beautiful song to him while he did his work.
Frying pan and toaster would be joining them soon, their short date would be over for today. But neither of them cried, they knew they would see each other again very soon.
